Classroom Update – Nov. 16

The last couple of weeks has been a little crazy hectic for me.  I have been out of the classroom quite a bit with meetings, a family emergency, and then on Friday the stomach flu.  Hopefully this will be the end for a while.  We have still managed to get lots done in the classroom!

READING – We continued reading nonfiction this week.  This week the 2nd graders all chose a topic to read about.  We are learning how reading multiple books on one topic can help our knowledge grow.

MATH – We are working on double digit addition!!  The kids learned 3 different ways of solving a problem.  Ask your 2nd grader if they can show you the 3 strategies.  Just so you know….the New Groups Above strategy is also known as “Carrying”.

WRITING – The kids finished up a nonfiction booklet this week.  I will be sharing them with you at conferences.

S.O.A.R. – We continue to work on SOARing at school, in the classroom and the playground!

PHONICS –  In unit two we have been working hard at learning strategies to figure out tricky words.
